Ustad Ghulam Sabir
Khan learnt the Sarangi from his grandfather late Ustad Rafeeq Ahmed Khan
and his father late Ustad Siddique Ahmed Khan, who were great maestros
of Sarangi and vocal music. He has also learnt some techniques from his
maternal uncle, the great Sarangi maestro Padamshree Ustad Sabri Khan.
He is the 5th generation in a musical lineage that dates back
to about 250 years. Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan is a very popular Sarangi
player and has participated in a number of major music festivals, having
accompanied several eminent performers. He has also accompanied several
leading vocalists like Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan, Pandit Rajan Mishra,
Sajan Mishara, Ustad Rasid Khan, Smt. Girja Devi, Late Pt. C.R. Viyas,
Pt. L.K. Pandit, Sushri Savita Devi ji, Smt. Shubra Mudgal, Late Shobha
Gurtv ji. Ghazal Singers : Smt. Reeta Ganguli, Smt. Shanti Hirananad,
Mehendi Hasan Khan, Ghulam Ali Khan, Begam Farida Khanum, Begam Abida
Parween, Hari Haran etc. Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan has performed extensively
in India abroad as name of few: England, Poland, Bela Rauss, Kuwait, Middle
East, Egypt, Afganistan, Pakistan, Russia etc. In his presentation style
he combines the clarity of the Moradabad Gharana with a touch of his own
individual style, which has brough him much laurels and appreciation.
He lives in Delhi and imparts training to several Sarangi players and
some vocalists, in the true manner of the Guru- Shishya Parampara.
